As Gauteng awaits the final outcome of the Local Government Elections, residents in informal settlements are hoping for a change in their living conditions and better service delivery.

In Elias Motsoaledi, Diepkloof, Soweto, Ntandoyenkosi Mkgwetshane – a first time voter who has lived in the area for many years – says he hopes the incoming local government administration will bring positive change.

Mkgwetshane says he is looking forward to seeing improvements that will make a difference in his community over the next five years.

“I really wish to see a couple of changes because I know it cannot be just a change or something that can happen overnight, but then from January next year. For the first six months of 2027, I really hope to see so much change, I really hope that our councillor will work hand in hand with the community.”
