MultiChoice Ghana has introduced four simplified DStv packages, with subscription prices significantly reduced as part of efforts to make its content more accessible and affordable to Ghanaian households.

The new packages which are, Starter, Select, Sports and Ultimate, will take effect on November 5, 2026, replacing the existing six packages: Access, Family, Compact, Compact Plus, Premium and Party.

Country CEO and Managing Director of MultiChoice Ghana, Alex Okyere, says the restructuring follows years of feedback from customers who have expressed concerns about the cost of subscriptions despite the quality of content offered on the platform.

Speaking at the launch, he said the company had responded by introducing more affordable packages while increasing the content available to subscribers.

“Our customers spoke, and we listened. This is not just restructuring. This is an evolution of the DStv brand. You are going to watch more content but pay much less than you are paying now,” he said.

Under the new arrangement, the Starter package will cost GH¢50, replacing the Access package, which costs GH¢98.

The Select package, which replaces Family, will cost GH¢100 instead of GH¢188, while the new Sports package will cost GH¢250 and combine the football content previously available on Compact and Compact Plus.

The Ultimate package, which replaces Premium, will cost GH¢570, down from the existing subscription price of GH¢854.

Mr Okyere explained that the new Sports package will give subscribers access to all the football content available on DStv, including the UEFA Champions League, English Premier League, La Liga and Serie A.

He also announced additional content across the packages, including a new Kick Off channel on the Starter package, which will broadcast selected football matches.

The company is also introducing changes to its movie channels, with M-Net Movies One and Two merging into M-Net Movies Plus, while M-Net Movies Three and Four will become M-Net Movies Stars and M-Net Movies Legends respectively.

According to Mr Okyere, the changes are intended to improve access to international movies and reduce complaints about repeated content, particularly among subscribers on lower-tier packages.

He stressed that the new pricing structure is permanent and not a temporary promotional offer.

MultiChoice reduces decoder and dish prices

Meanwhile, Head of Sales and Distribution at MultiChoice Ghana, Michael Lartey, announced a reduction in the cost of DStv equipment to attract more households to the platform.

He said a decoder and satellite dish combination would now cost GH¢99, while customers who already own a dish can purchase the decoder alone for GH¢49.

Mr Lartey said the reduction is part of efforts to reach more Ghanaian households, noting that the country has more than eight million electrified homes, with relatively few currently subscribing to DStv.

“We believe that as long as you have electricity, you are eligible to be on board and to be part of this great family,” he said.

He added that the company has established a distribution network of 12 major dealers and about 1,500 points of sale across the country to improve access to its products and services.

MultiChoice also has more than 350 direct sales representatives operating across the country to support customer acquisition and distribution.

The company says it is working closely with government to tackle content piracy and protect the quality of entertainment delivered to subscribers.

It maintains that the new packages and reduced equipment prices form part of a broader strategy to expand its subscriber base and make premium television entertainment more accessible to Ghanaians.
