A 21-year-old graduate has sparked debate after revealing that her mother is pressuring her to marry a 50-year-old businessman for financial security.

A 21-year-old graduate has turned to relationship adviser Auntie Momoza for help. Her mother is allegedly pressuring her to marry a 50-year-old businessman to secure her financial future.

The young woman is still looking for work. She recently completed her degree. However, her mother believes marrying a wealthy older man is the solution to her unemployment, IOL reported.

According to the anonymous graduate, her mother keeps praising the businessman. She says he is financially stable and can provide for her daughter.

But the proposed marriage has left the young woman deeply uncomfortable. She has no romantic feelings for the man. She also struggles with their significant age difference.

“I do not love him, I do not feel any connection, and the thought of marrying him makes me anxious,” she explained.

The graduate said her mother had dismissed her concerns. She allegedly called her stubborn and ungrateful. She also insisted that opportunities like this did not come along every day.

Despite understanding her mother's concerns, the young woman refuses to abandon her ambitions. She worked hard for her degree and still hopes to build her own career.

Living at home has made the situation even more difficult. The pressure is constant. Every conversation reportedly turns into a reminder of how difficult life can be without a provider.

“Every conversation turns into her reminding me how difficult life is without a provider,” she said.

Her dilemma has sparked strong reactions from social media users. Sarina Zuzu-Leabua Koetje suggested that the mother could have her own financial motives for pushing the marriage.

“She isn't doing it for you, she is doing it for herself! She knows she'll be getting an allowance from the old man. Do not let her manipulate you into getting into something you don't want!” Koetje said.

Nonhlanhla Mercy also urged the graduate to stand her ground. She said the young woman was an adult and had the right to make her own decisions.

“Tell your mother to marry the guy because you have your own plans and stick to them. Never allow anyone to pressure you into doing anything you don't want to do,” Mercy said.
