The four accused in the deceased estates fraud case are expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo on Friday.
The accused are Tshwane Metro Police Department officer Peter “Gagash” Nonyane, his wife and attorney Charlotte Tibana, her sibling Rirhandzu Tibana and Jabulani Maluleke.
They are accused of defrauding six deceased estate accounts of more than R11 million. Nonyane and Charlotte Tibana were denied bail, while Rirhandzu Tibana and Maluleke were granted bail of R60 000 each.
The four face a total of 123 charges, including fraud, theft and money laundering. Nonyane and his wife also sought to overturn the magistrate’s decision to deny them bail, taking the matter on appeal to the High Court in Polokwane.
The High Court upheld the decision of the magistrate’s court. The State is expected to inform the court whether it has concluded its investigations and is ready for trial.
