"It underscores the imperative of sustained diplomatic engagement even after hostilities have commenced, including through mediation, good offices and the maintenance of channels of communication, with a view to facilitating ceasefires and promoting durable political settlements," the statement noted.
It further added that building upon Security Council resolution 2788 (2025), unanimously adopted during Pakistan's Presidency in July 2025, the statement gave focused attention to the critical role of diplomacy during active hostilities, reaffirming that diplomatic efforts must continue at all stages of the conflict cycle.
The FO stated that the PRST represented a substantive addition to the council's existing body of work by bringing together established principles and experiences from different conflict situations within a focused thematic framework, adding that it provided an "important collective political reference point for the council's continued engagement in promoting de-escalation, facilitating dialogue and advancing peaceful and sustainable political solutions".
The FO concluded by saying that the adoption reflected Pakistan's "continued commitment to multilateralism, dialogue and diplomacy", and its constructive contribution towards the maintenance of international peace and security.
