Diepkloof Hostel dweller Sibusiso Mazibuko, says he hopes the new Johannesburg administration will also prioritise the needs of people living in hostels.

He says they are struggling with poor services including lack of water and proper toilets.

This comes as 59 %  of voting districts in Gauteng have been counted.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) is leading with 34%, followed by the African National Congress (ANC) with 21 percent and ActionSA with 17 %.

Mazibuko hopes the new city officials will listen to their concerns and improve living conditions at the hostel.

“This hostel is in a very bad condition, and it could collapse at any time. We are appealing to the government to help us. Sometimes they think we are simply complaining, but that is not the case. We also want to live in decent conditions like everyone else. We do not have proper toilets, and there is a bad smell everywhere. I wish the government would renovate this place.
