The Black Star Experience Secretariat will begin publishing an Annual Ghana Fashion Industry Report next year.
The move was announced by the Black Star Experience coordinator Rex Omar at the 2026 Black Star Fashion Summit held in Accra on Wednesday. The event forms part of activities designed around this year’s Black Star Fashion Week.
The festival seeks to highlight the craftsmanship, entrepreneurship and cultural heritage that continue to shape the future of African fashion.
Omar, who has enjoyed international acclaim as a highlife star and fashion champion for several decades, believes the document will offer “credible data, insights and analysis to help us better understand the size, structure, opportunities and challenges of the fashion ecosystem.”
“We cannot adequately develop an industry we do not sufficiently understand, and we cannot attract the level of investment we desire without the data and evidence to support our ambitions,” he noted to attendees, drawn from across Ghana’s fashion spectrum, with tourism minister Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, as special guest of honour. Also in attendance were Ghana Tourism Authority CEO Maame Afua Hoadzeto and UNESCO representative Edmond Moukouala, among other high-profile dignitaries.
The announcement aligns with broader efforts under the Black Star Experience, an initiative seeking to position Ghana’s creative industries as important drivers of national development.
“From weaving communities to fashion workshops, from the runway to retail outlets, and from production and logistics to digital marketing, the fashion value chain creates opportunities for young people and sustains thousands of livelihoods across the country,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Black Star Experience Secretariat will introduce a recognition initiative to pioneering figures in Ghana’s fashion industry.
“These are individuals who have contributed immensely to where we are today, often without the recognition they deserve. Their stories must be told, their contributions celebrated and their legacies preserved for future generations,” Omar stated.
The 2026 Black Star Fashion Week has so far witnessed keynote speeches, masterclasses, panel discussions, exhibitions, and networking experiences. The festival moves to the Royal Senchi Hotel in Akosombo on 7 November for The Presidential Runway showcase, expected to constitute a key festival highlight.
