BIG WIN: New Ward 56 councillor Ashwin Jansen
NEW Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor for ward 56, Ashwin Jansen, says he will do the “boring work” for his community.
The DA are back in control of the area which encompasses Factreton, Kensington, Maitland, Windermere, Acacia Park, and Wingfield
During the 2023 by-election, the DA left the ward uncontested, with control falling to Patriotic Alliance (PA), with councillor Cheslyn Daniels taking the reins.
However, after the brothers campaigned for opposition parties in the 2026 Local Government Elections, the DA swept to victory.
Speaking to IOL Media from the DA’s victory party outside the IEC Western Cape results centre in Century City, Jansen said he was elated to get to work for the community.
He said “I’m feeling quite elated. The voters of Ward 56 have spoken. They needed a party with a track record in the ward and a party that could focus on all residents.
“Currently, the plan will be to engage with all the sectors within the ward.
“During my campaigning, I said I’m not going to give a manifesto. But as stakeholders we are all going to gather post-election and determine what are the priorities areas of the ward.
“That will be the focus going forward; meeting with our ratepayers, meeting with the community policing forum and the various sporting codes.
“We want to identify the priorities and implement those over the next five years.
“We will get the boring work done for all the residents of the ward.”
a community project. The organizer is not taking any kind of funds to pay for the area. It is a community project and I am a strong advocate. However,"
"...there are a lot of people that are coming here for the last hours without a single cent area."
"I am being watched, I will continue. One, two, three."
"You have a right to put your contribution. The community is doing this for the sake of the people, and I am a strong advocate for a stakeholder that could support,"
"...so that they post this area carefully and forward you can work with our residents. Look at this various and tracking down one of our priorities, what are our priorities for communication and that overall."
"And that is why the board we use a board and world to support all the residents, not just those."
