The explosions followed warnings from the Air Force about an imminent ballistic missile threat from the north.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko urged residents to remain in shelters as the attack unfolded. Ukrainian authorities had not immediately confirmed specific impact sites, casualties or the extent of damage.

Unverified local reports suggested that areas near energy infrastructure may have been targeted, but officials had not confirmed those claims.

Earlier Friday, President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Ukrainian intelligence had identified Russian preparations for new strikes targeting energy facilities, bridges across the Dnipro River and civilian infrastructure.

Zelensky said Ukrainian defense forces were preparing to repel the attacks and urged Western partners to accelerate deliveries of Patriot air defense interceptors.

“Right now, we have intelligence indicating that a new strike is being prepared against the energy sector, against our bridges across the Dnipro River, and against civilian infrastructure,” he said in his evening address.

“Interceptors for Patriot systems are needed. Every agreement matters. Every single day in terms of supplies is extremely important. And we strongly urge our partners not to postpone deliveries,” he said.
