The Electoral Commission (IEC) in Gauteng has deployed more data capturers to speed up the election results capturing process for the City of Johannesburg.
The IEC says it is lagging behind in finalising Joburg’s municipal election results due to the sheer volume of ballots being processed.
IEC Gauteng Manager for Electoral Operations, Nthabi Sipane, says they have so far verified 65% of results across the province.
“Progress has been made since the morning when I gave the report. Midvaal is of course small; it’s at 100%. Capturing is complete there. The West Rand is at 100%, and Merafong is at 100%. So basically, in the West Rand, the two municipalities, Merafong and West Rand, are done. We’re waiting for Mogale City. In terms of the metros, progress is also recorded, and the City of Joburg that was going slowly this morning is recording nice progress. They’re sitting at 56% complete now. They managed to record this progress because they deployed more data capturers.”
As at 9am on November 6, the results in the Metros https://t.co/BmK0Js4j5B
