The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) has thanked South Africans for their support as the vote counting of the 2026 local government elections enters its final stages.
Contesting local elections for the first time since its establishment in December 2023, the party emerged as the third-largest party in the 2024 national and provincial elections and appears to have maintained its position, securing just over 9% support with about 80% of results counted.
The party has recorded a strong showing in KwaZulu-Natal, a significant presence in Mpumalanga, and support in Gauteng and the North West.
MKP Head of Elections Lee Mchunu attributes the party’s success to its election campaign strategy.
“We don’t do this manifesto thing; we don’t tell people what we are going to do out there what we are saying we do what we call a people’s mandate we recieve the information a data of what the MKP must do that is why people it is not vice versa that is why people are saying we know what they want and our job is very simple from now on to deliver what people ask us to do for them”.
National Spokesperson Sifiso Mahlangu says the MK Party performed very well in its first Local Government Elections, securing municipalities and wards. He says the focus now shifts to delivering on the People’s Mandate and fulfilling the promises made to South Africans. https://t.co/D64pga9AdM
