Government says preliminary studies have affirmed the viability of establishing a new national airline.

A roadmap for the establishment of the airline has been agreed, with the process expected to involve the identification of a strategic airline partner and a technical partner, acquisition of an Air Operator Certificate, as well as fleet selection and financing arrangements.

President John Dramani Mahama on Monday met with officials of the Boeing Group, which is providing support to Ghana’s efforts to re-establish a national airline.

The Boeing delegation assured the President of its continued assistance throughout the establishment and operational phases of the airline.

The proposed national carrier is expected to boost the use of Ghana’s improved airport infrastructure and support President Mahama’s ambition of positioning Accra as the premier aviation hub in West Africa.

It is also expected to generate several jobs across the aviation industry, including opportunities for pilots, cabin crew, aeronautical engineers and aviation management specialists.
