The case against former EMPD Deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi and former Ekurhuleni municipal officials Imogen Mashazi, Kemi Behari and Linda Gxasheka, has been postponed to the 13th of this month at the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.
Mashazi, Behari and Gxasheka are accused of allegedly shielding Mkhwanazi from accountability over claims that he facilitated the provision of blue lights to controversial businessman Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala through a fraudulent memorandum of agreement.
In a separate matter, Mkhwanazi appeared alongside Matlala and Ekurhuleni fleet manager, Chris Steyn.
Their case was postponed to the 29th of January for consultations as well as further instructions.
The three face charges of fraud and corruption linked to the alleged unlawful installation of blue lights and sirens on vehicles belonging to Matlala’s company.
The second case involves allegations that the former municipal officials helped shield Mkhwanazi from accountability over the alleged fraudulent blue-light agreement, was postponed to Friday next week.
This was to allow the defence teams time to verify if they had indeed received full disclosure of the docket from the state.
