The African Transformation Movement’s (ATM) parliamentary leader, Vuyo Zungula, says that while the ATM acknowledges its strongest traditional support base in the Eastern Cape, the party is actively shifting its strategy to build a footprint as a truly national movement.

Zungula has hailed the party’s success in the 2026 Local General Elections as a historic victory, stating that it is a build-up to the 2029 general elections.

He was speaking to SABC News at the IEC Results Centre in Midrand.

He has thanked the people of South Africa for believing in their principles and values.

“We have worked very hard. For instance, we already have a sitting Lephalale, Limpopo. We already have something in Free State, here in Gauteng, even in the City of Cape Town. So, it does happen that sometimes people from different places are going to view the message, and it has translated to what has been translated now. Whilst we are going to have a large base of our supporters based in the Eastern Cape or coming from the Eastern Cape, but the work of the party is national, especially for national elections. People are relating to the party at a national level. So, the work that we have now, I want to repeat this point, is building on what we have, ensuring that the grounds that we have, you know, broken in terms of the Free State, Limpopo and other places whereby 2021 we never had a single representation but we now have. It is a question of continuing even further.”
