The case against self-proclaimed pastor Caiphus Mkhawane and his co-accused, Ntsako Makhubela and Amanda Mnguni, has been postponed to 7 December by the Atteridgeville Magistrates’ Court.

The postponement will allow Mkhawane and Mnguni to undergo further psychiatric evaluations to determine their fitness to stand trial.

All three accused are expected to be admitted to Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital for assessment. The accused are facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder and fraud.

Mkhawane and Makhubela face additional charges, including human trafficking, premeditated murder, rape, kidnapping and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The charges relate to allegations that a four-month-old baby was killed and the child’s mother was raped during alleged ritual activities.

Legal representatives for Mkhawane and Mnguni, Advocate Vuyisile Silimela welcomed the postponement. “On behalf of accused 2 and 3, I also confirm that the defense accepts the reports on behalf of the accused persons.”
