ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba says South Africa’s “forgotten people” have made their voices heard in the municipal elections.
Mashaba spoke to the media at the Results Operations Centre in Midrand, Johannesburg.
His comments come as the six-year-old party has made inroads in Gauteng.
With 33 per cent of votes counted, the party is showing 16 per cent support.
Mashaba says communities such as Soweto, Alexandra and Orange Farm responded to the party’s call to participate in the vote.
He thanked residents for coming out in numbers and giving ActionSA a mandate: “The gratitude goes to people of Soweto, people of Alexander, people of Orange Farm, and all the other areas, including some in the suburban areas. We’re really grateful that they gave us an opportunity, because honestly, our people have been failed by centuries of oppression and failed by 32 years of ANC corruption and mismanagement.”
