Over 100 golfers drawn from various golf clubs across the country are expected to participate in the inaugural GCB Opemsuo Invitational Golf Tournament in Kumasi.
GCB Bank is partnering the Royal Golf Club Kumasi to organise the one-day 18-hole golf competition on 28th November 2026 to celebrate the rich Asante royal heritage and bring together business leaders and golf enthusiasts on one stage.
The tournament, the first of its kind, has been officially launched at the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi.
The GCB Opemsuo Invitational Golf Tournament is distinct from the usual amateur golf competitions, where winners are awarded trophies and other golf souvenirs.
This time round the winners of both the men’s and ladies’ events will be decorated with colourful kente-embroidered jackets replicating the traditional Green Jacket won by the winner of the US Masters.
Chief Marketing Communications and Customer Relations Officer at GCB Bank, Cynthia Ofori Dwomfou, said the tournament forms part of its efforts to strengthen relationships with existing customers while creating opportunities to engage potential clients.
She noted that beyond promoting golf and the opportunity to associate with His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Asantehene, the tournament also serves as a strategic platform to appreciate loyal customers, forge stronger ties with business partners, and introduce the bank’s products and services to prospective clients.
“We understand that golf in itself is a critical sport because the actual practice of golf requires discipline, it requires relationship, it requires introspection, and it requires support. And for us as a bank, we have established that it is important for us to engage our customers in a manner that makes sense to them. And so, for us which better partner could we find than the royal golf club. It is our privilege to actually be here and say that we are embarking on a partnership, a tournament Opemsuo that not just elevates our partnership but also gives respect to the heritage of Opemsuo and what golf has done in this great city,” she stated.
Meanwhile, Chief Operating Officer of the Royal Golf Club, Prof. Bernard Baiden, is happy at the partnership with GCB and is particularly excited that the competition has been named after the life patron of the Royal Golf Club, Opemsuo.
“We’ve had a relationship with GCB Bank for some time now, and we are excited that they’ve come up with this partnership. This partnership will see a different level of relationship with GCB, and we hope that by the time we finish the tournament, it will be the talk of town. We are very confident, especially with the name chosen by GCB for this particular tournament, ‘Opemsuo’.
“Opemsuo is our life patron, our owner and our everything, so to have a tournament named after him means a lot to us.”
According to GCB Bank, they intend to make the tournament an annual event and are hopeful that subsequent tournaments will be bigger and attract many more participants.
