The uMkhonto we Sizwe Party (MKP) says it is concerned about the slow pace at which preliminary Local Government Election (LGE) results are being updated in KwaZulu-Natal.
MK Party eThekwini Regional Chairperson, Mkhanka Zuma says while the party is pleased with the results reflected so far, it wants the IEC to ensure transparency in the counting and capturing process.
“We are very concerned of the slow motion that the results being updated because it is now resurrecting of what we have experienced in 2024 so we now have that fear that what happened to us in 2024 shall not repeat itself again. We knew that the MK Party was already in a government in waiting. What we see in the screen now is what we have been saying. We are excited because this is confirming what we have been hearing on the ground when people have been saying they are voting for the MK Party.”
Zuma says the MK Party is prepared to enter into coalition arrangements in eThekwini should it fail to secure an outright majority.
“If we don’t get an outright majority, we will definitely go into a coalition. However, I have mentioned as the MKP, we are not carrying our own mandate but the mandate of the people. That’s why we don’t deliver a manifesto but the peoples mandate. We will have to consult with the people again so that the people may decide that who do they think we should work with because at the end of the day it’s not about us, it’s about improving the living conditions of the people in eThekwini.
