Alleged cartel member Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, who is implicated in allegations of infiltrating the criminal justice system, will return to the Madlanga Commission on Monday.

He will resume his unfinished testimony before the commission.

The commission has directed its evidence leaders and Matlala’s legal team to submit written arguments on the implications of Section 105A(10) of the Criminal Procedure Act that allows an accused to plead guilty in exchange for an agreed sentence.

The submissions must be filed by five o’clock this Sunday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the attempted murder trial against Matlala and four co-accused has been postponed to Thursday at the High Court in Johannesburg.

Matlala is accused of orchestrating three failed assassination attempts targeting his former girlfriend, Tebogo Thobejane, businessman Joe Sibanyoni and music producer Seunkie Mokubung.

The alleged assassination attempts took place between August 2022 and January 2024.

Judge Cassim Moosa ordered the postponement following an agreement between the defence teams and the State.

“The court has been informed that there is no other defence witness here in court today in relation to the trial within a trial on behalf of accused number one. You heard counsel indicate that Dr Du Toit is going to be called, but Dr Du Toit is going to have her consultation tomorrow with counsel and she will be in court at 2:00 pm on Thursday afternoon. Also, the reason we can’t sit tomorrow is that the court was informed two weeks ago that accused number five is writing an examination.”
