The Institute of Packaging, Ghana (IOPG) says it will deepen collaboration with farmers, agro-processors and other stakeholders in the agricultural value chain to improve packaging solutions, reduce post-harvest losses and enhance the competitiveness of locally produced goods.

The initiative forms part of the Institute’s commitment to positioning packaging as a strategic tool for agricultural transformation and industrial development as it marks its 23rd anniversary.

This was captured in a statement issued by the Institute on November 3.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, IOPG will organise a Packaging Webinar on December 2, 2026, ahead of Ghana’s National Farmers’ Day celebrations.

The webinar, themed “Packaging as a Strategic Asset: Building Brand Loyalty and Driving Agricultural Value Creation,” will bring together farmers, agro-processors, packaging manufacturers, researchers, policymakers and other private-sector players to explore opportunities for collaboration.

According to the Institute, “the engagement will provide a platform for knowledge sharing and stakeholder discussions on agricultural value addition, post-harvest loss reduction, brand development, market access, export competitiveness and sustainable packaging innovation.”

IOPG noted that packaging must go beyond simply containing and protecting products to become an important business tool for adding value, building strong brands and increasing profitability.

The Institute has also called on government agencies, industry associations, educational institutions and private-sector organisations to invest in appropriate and innovative packaging solutions to unlock the potential of Ghana’s agricultural resources.
