Democratic Alliance (DA) Federal Leader Geordin Hill-Lewis says early projections indicate the party is set to gain more than 100 new ward seats across the country.

He was speaking to the media at the Results Operations Centre in Midrand, Johannesburg, as vote counting continues.

LGE 2026 | Geordin Hill-Lewis says more than one million Black South Africans voted for the DA, with the party expecting to emerge as the largest in the four major metros.
With 71% of VDs declared nationally, the party has 24.46% support.
(In the final 2021 results, the party had 21.66% support)

Hill-Lewis says the results show the DA is increasingly becoming a mainstream party in communities across the country.

“Our projection at the moment is that we will gain more than 104, 105 new ward seats that we have won around the country. And more than 230 new councillors will join the ranks of DA councils around the country.”

“And perhaps most exciting of all, as we can now say with a fair degree of certainty that we will have around one million black voters for the Democratic Alliance in South Africa, which means that we are now a mainstream party in every community in the country.”
