The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) wants the Electoral Commission (IEC) to delay the final announcement and gazetting of the outcomes of the Local Government Elections (LGE) until what they call ‘electoral irregularities’ in the eThekwini Municipality are resolved.
MKP has formally lodged an objection with the IEC.
In a letter to the Commission, its acting Secretary, Lindiwe Makhubu, alleged that a system failure occurred during the live results capturing and data transmission phase at the IEC’s eThekwini Results Operation Centre (ROC), and that the breakdown disrupted data streams and altered visible audit trails.
The party has since called on the Commission to immediately audit the disputed results, suspend further processing of affected results pending verification and grant access for an independent forensic analysis.
The MKP also wants an immediate electronic quarantine of disputed data.
