The Durban High Court has dismissed Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla’s application to have terrorism-related charges against her withdrawn.
Her case has been postponed to May next year and she remains out on a warning. The former president’s daughter was charged last year, accused of incitement to commit terrorism and public violence.
The court reserved judgment until 6 November after hearing arguments from both the defence and the State. Defence Advocate Dali Mpofu had argued that the State failed to present sufficient evidence to prove key elements of the charges.
Mpofu questioned whether Zuma-Sambudla’s social media posts constituted unlawful incitement, and alleged that she was being targeted because of her surname.
State prosecutor Advocate Mayen Naidoo maintained that the prosecution had presented sufficient evidence, arguing that her repeated social media posts and the language used could be interpreted as encouraging violence.
