Three men are expected to appear in the KaBokweni and KaNyamazane Magistrates’ Courts in Mpumalanga on Monday, facing charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and an unlicensed firearm with ammunition.
They were arrested separately during a multidisciplinary police operation on Friday. The arrests followed tracing operations after an armed robbery at a fuel station near KaNyamazane on Friday morning.
Provincial police spokesperson Mavela Masondo says security officers were robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash during the incident.
“While searching around KaBokweni, the said vehicle, a red VW Polo with Mpumalanga registration number plates, was spotted and tactically intercepted with two occupants and an undisclosed amount of cash was found concealed in a plastic bag. There was something suspicious about the disc and the numbers of the vehicle. It is suspected that the vehicle could be the centre of a police investigation regarding a Brooklyn case which was registered in September 2022. The third suspect, though, was cornered on the same Friday at KaNyamazane after he was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.”
