The newly formed Service Delivery Party is emerging as a notable player in Mpumalanga’s local government elections.

With nearly 80% of votes counted in the province, the party has secured 15 council seats. However, the ANC continues to enjoy majority support in most municipalities across Mpumalanga.

The Service Delivery Party became the majority party in the Victor Khanye Local Municipality after obtaining 39% of the vote, which translates to seven seats.

Other parties contesting the local government elections for the first time, the uMkhonto weSizwe Party and the SACP, are also showing signs of strong support in Mkhondo and Bushbuckridge respectively.

The ANC has managed to retain its majority support in different municipalities across the province, although most of them are hung.
