The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) in KwaZulu-Natal says it has resolved delays in vote capturing in several municipalities, caused by storm-related power outages and connectivity issues.

Speaking at a media briefing at the Results Operations Centre (ROC)  in Durban, the IEC’s Provincial Electoral Officer, Ntombifuthi Masinga, said the delays were experienced last night, but capturing is now proceeding smoothly.

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party is currently leading in the province, followed by the IFP in second place and the ANC in third.

“Alfred Duma Municipality … it is the same issue as Vryheid and Abaqulusi. At 9pm, we instructed them to go home, and sleep and come back this morning. Lastly, at Inkosi Mtubatuba there was also power connectivity resulting in delays in that office, but they are continuing today. But things seem to be moving,” Masinga elaborates.
