Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem has called on mediators, the US administration and Gaza’s Board of Peace representative Nikolay Mladenov to act immediately to ensure Israel implements the agreements reached under US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan and its roadmap, following the end of the Israeli elections.
In a press statement on Wednesday, Qassem said the end of the Israeli elections, which Mladenov had cited as a reason for delaying action, made it necessary for the mediators, the US administration and Mladenov to move immediately to ensure Israel fulfils its commitments under Trump’s Gaza peace plan and its roadmap.
He added that the mediators, the US administration and Mladenov must make serious efforts to stop Israel’s continued escalation against the people of the Gaza Strip and exert practical pressure to allow the entry of the technocratic committee tasked with administering Gaza, which has been based in Egypt for several months.
The agreement ended the genocidal war launched by Israel on 8 October 2023, which lasted two years and left more than 74,000 Palestinians dead and over 175,000 injured. It also caused widespread destruction, with the United Nations estimating the cost of reconstruction at around $70 billion.
