Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, claimed that Iran had inflicted both military and political defeats on US President Donald Trump, citing confrontations in the Strait of Hormuz and the Republican Party’s losses in the US midterm elections.
In a post on X on Wednesday, Rezaei described Iran’s military actions and the election results as setbacks for the US president.
“The Iranian nation has inflicted a strategic defeat on Trump on the battlefield and in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as a political defeat in Washington,” Rezaei wrote.
He warned that “anyone who commits aggression against Iran will pay the price.”
The Iranian official also referred to the financial consequences of the conflict, arguing that Americans were bearing the economic costs of the war.
His remarks followed Tuesday’s US midterm elections, in which Democrats reportedly secured control of both chambers of Congress, dealing a political setback to Trump’s Republican Party.
Rezaei portrayed the election outcome as an extension of what he described as Iran’s strategic success in its military confrontation with the United States.
His statements reflect Tehran’s assessment of the conflict and its political consequences for Washington.
