The Ministry of Health says the District Health Information Management System (DHIMS) has been successfully restored and is now fully operational following a temporary disruption.
In a press release issued on November 6, 2026, the Ministry said the system, which is managed by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), supports the collation and management of health information at the district level.
The Ministry expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their patience and understanding during the period of disruption.
It, however, clarified that the Ghana Health Information Management System (GHIMS), used by hospitals to manage patient and medical records, was not affected by the disruption and remained operational throughout the period.
The clarification is expected to address concerns about the potential impact of the disruption on hospital operations and the management of patients’ medical records.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening digital health systems to improve efficiency, data management and healthcare delivery across the country.
Earlier, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin was pushing for the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to appear before the House to explain the shutdown of the system.
Mr Afenyo-Markin wanted the Minister to brief Parliament on the circumstances that led to the disruption of the systems, reportedly following an unpaid cloud hosting bill of more than US$64,000.
The issue was raised in Parliament amid concerns about the impact of the disruption on health information management and reporting across the country.
